Blacksburg: Where to Eat During Covid

We're officially a few days into Phase 1 reopening, which means that restaurants can still offer takeout service but can add outdoor seating (with restrictions). So tired of doing dishes? Ready to try different cuisine? Here's a list of a few favorite places to eat in Blacksburg.

Avellino's. A great place for traditional Italian or American favorites like pizza with fresh ingredients, steak fries and cheese steaks. I can say from experience that the fries stay crisp and hot during the drive home. For feeding the family, they're offering Chef Specials with a main course, soup or salad, veggie side, and fresh bread. Wine and beer by the bottle are on special between 4pm-9pm as well. See their website for all the details.

They have online ordering, traditional delivery, and curbside pickup with contactless delivery to your car door.

The Beast of Blacksburg. A great all-around pizza place. It always seems that you get more than you pay for. If you haven't had a gourmet pizza from them, you've been missing out. They are generous with the toppings and have great sauce on a traditional New York style crust. If you're craving pizza, this a must try place. Follow them on Facebook for deals and pictures of cheesy goodness. The workers here always make $15/hour as part of the owner's fair wage initiative and cannot take tips.

Order by phone or online and go inside to pick up. Workers behind the counter wear masks and use gloves that are changed between customers.

Zeppolis. A longstanding Blacksburg tradition for Italian food. If you're not following them on Facebook, you're missing out. They have a great social media presence that keeps everyone updated on specials and events. Their special events like date night packages and wine tasting nights (2oz of several different wines to pair with a multicourse take out meal) are a great way to eat well and keep boredom at bay. Looking to feed a crowd? Their pasta by the pound or by the pan is a great option.

Order online or by phone and call when you're in the parking lot and they'll deliver to your car for contactless pickup or try your luck at scoring one of the outdoor tables.

Our Daily Bread. Not just delicious handmade desserts - but honestly let's talk about those for a minute. You have never had French buttercream until you've had their French buttercream. You deserve an ODB dessert. Treat yourself. But while you're ordering, check out their brunch and lunch menus for a great bistro style meal. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to fill your feed with beautiful food pictures and great specials.

They take orders by phone and on their website and offer take out, curbside delivery, limited patio seating, and delivery.

Bull and Bones. Closed during the shutdown, they've reopened and are bringing their local craft beers and mouthwatering burgers and BBQ back. For updates and specials, follow them on Facebook.

Order online for pickup or hit up their patio seating available at both Blacksburg and Christiansburg locations.

The Black Hen. Offering contemporary American Food, they've reopened with the beginning of Phase 1, to offer takeout and patio seating starting May 15th. Stay on the lookout because they plan to start offering specials and family packs soon.

Call or email the restaurant to place your order. Payment is required at the time of order, so if you email, be sure to call and give them credit card information.

BOTS and TOTS. Bottom of the Stairs and Top of the Stairs. Great places for chicken or pork BBQ sandwiches, burgers, and other pub food. You can order family size BBQ platters to make 4+ sandwiches, 3 sides, coleslaw, and their famous sauces. Beer and wine will be ready for pickup or delivery very soon. We're all waiting for word on whether their signature cocktails will be included too.

This Blacksburg tradition has outdoor seating, delivery, and takeout options. Order by phone or online. Don't forget that the Town of Blacksburg has made parking free, so you can feed your family without feeding the meters.

Lefty's. Check out their brews, burgers, and entrees. Their modified menu is on Facebook, along with specials like 50% off canned beer and bottled wine to-go. Growler fill-ups are up to 50% off, depending on the beer. Follow them on Facebook because they often add 1 day specials, like a delicious looking steak dinner with Riesling cream sauce or fish and shrimp in an Alfredo sauce.

Offering curbside takeout, delivery, and hard to get patio seating. Try Open Table to see if they're taking reservations for patio seating.
